Talent Development: Our Perspective
The words “giftedness” and “talent” and “more able” are interpreted differently by different people.
Our definition for what many call giftedness encompasses “potential” and a “capacity to learn”. Children may exhibit their high ability in some area earlier or later. Some children with high ability may not show any high performance because of external factors, such as social or emotional problems, a learning difficulty, physical disabilities or other special educational needs. Many children have the potential for higher performance and achievement, whether it be academic ability or special aptitudes in other areas, given the right support and encouragement. What we want for our children is that they to grow up with hope, optimism and happiness.
